Any readers who follow me on social media may have seen the new Sunday walk series I kicked off earlier this week with a 5-mile trek around the Hole of Horcum on the Yorkshire Moors.
14 people joined me for this first in a fortnightly series of walks, which was amazing and humbling.

We had a fantastic time and a really good laugh – with the added benefits of feeling that bit fitter by the end, and knowing we’d raised a few quid for a worthy cause at the same time.

So why have I decided to do this?
Well, I’ve been inspired by a lovely client of mine called Chrysta Newman, who runs the Village Farm Marquees and B&B businesses in Skipsea, East Yorkshire, with her husband Tony.
Since Chrysta started training with me in March 2016 we’ve got to know each other pretty well. As well as being a truly amazing client and losing two stones in weight and tonnes of inches, her fitness and confidence have increased so much she is planning to walk part of the Great wall of China later this year to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society. I am incredibly proud to be a part of her journey and her efforts to raise money for such a worthy cause which I know is very close to her heart. You can read Chrysta’s full story my previous blog http://bodybootcampltd.co.uk/news/getting-to-the-root-of-the-problem.
To be eligible to undertake the Wall of China challenge, she must raise over £3,000 for the charity, and to do that she and her family are organising several events in the coming months. As her personal trainer, I want to help too and that’s why I’ve organised this ‘Walking for Alzheimer’s’ group. We meet once a fortnight at various locations throughout East and North Yorkshire. It’s £2 to take part in each walk and is open to everyone who can walk the distance, including children and dogs.

Our Goal?

As a group we hope to build up to completing the Yorkshire Three Peaks in under 12 hours in May. My aim is to raise a total of £3,000 in sponsorship to get Chrysta there.
Why walking?

Walking is something that most people can do. It’s a great way to get active and enjoy the great outdoors at the same time. We are very blessed where we live, with some of the most beautiful countryside in the world (in my opinion). The world’s greatest gym is out there on our doorstep! I am passionate about getting everyone fit and healthy and walking is a great way to do that.

Not only that, but it has been clinically proven that physical activity and exercise helps ward off dementia and lots of other degenerative diseases. It stimulates the mind and body to keep functioning at their best.

Want to join us?

Our next walk will be at Castle Howard on Sunday 22nd January, a circular walk of just under eight miles. All you need to bring is a drink and a light snack if you think you’ll need it. The walk t should take us approximately three to four hours. I really would love to see you there! Let’s get fit, have fun and raise some money in the process.

If you’d like to come, register your interest here https://www.facebook.com/events/356241994744756 and if you can’t make it this time, keep an eye on my website and Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/bodybootcamppersonaltraining for details of future events.
